Are you curious about all of the teeth whitening options that promise you a whiter smile? In this post, we’ll discuss the best ways to whiten your teeth at home and on a budget.
Take-Home Whitening Kit From Your Dentist
By far the best, safest and most effective way to whiten your teeth at home would be to talk to the dentists at Randwick Dental Clinic about our take-home whitening kit. You get all the benefits of a professional teeth whitening without the cost.
With the convenience of the take-home kit, you can brighten and maintain your smile in the comfort of your own home. This procedure involves the self-application of our whitening gel for 30 minutes to 2 hours per day. Alternatively, you can choose our night system, which allows for you to leave the gels on all night for even better whitening results.
You can even re-use the custom-made bleaching trays that we provide if you buy additional teeth whitening gel from our office for periodic touch ups.
Over the Counter Whitening Strips
Another option that takes a bit longer and may not achieve the same professional level of whiteness is to use over the counter whitening strips. These usually involve wearing the strips for about 30 minutes every day for about 20 days, although you can find some over the counter that work in just two hours. This process, while it lasts a long time, is very easy to use and rarely carries the risk of tooth sensitivity or gum irritation.
Baking Soda and Lemon Juice Paste
If you’re looking for a more affordable and natural remedy to stained teeth, this one is an oldie but a goodie. Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, is well known for its abilities to remove stains and act as a cleaning agent. It is mildly abrasive, so it can gently scrub away surface stains to return teeth to a whiter shade. In addition, baking soda is very alkaline, the opposite of acidic, so it may have benefits balancing out the acidity in your mouth and the acidity from the lemon juice. The lemon juice serves to act as a natural bleach.
To make the paste, mix together a spoonful or two of baking soda and enough lemon juice to form a paste. Wipe your teeth of any extra saliva with a paper towel, put a healthy dose of the paste on your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on your teeth for 1 minute, then rinse. You don’t want to overdo it as you can wear away your enamel.
Coconut Oil Rinse
It seems that the cosmetic possibilities for coconut oil are endless. A coconut oil mouth rinse, called ‘oil pulling’ is an old remedy to help whiten your teeth. It doesn’t achieve whiteness by bleaching, per se, but the lauric acid in coconut oil can rid your teeth of bacteria found in plaque that can make them yellow. It also promotes gum health and keeps your breath fresh.
You should do the rinse in the morning before you brush your teeth. Scoop out a little less than a spoonful of coconut oil and plop it in your mouth, where it will melt. Then push, swish and “pull” the oil around your mouth and through your teeth for 10 to 15 minutes. Spit it out, rinse with water and then brush your teeth.
So, what do we do if we want to look younger and whiten our teeth, but we don’t want to cause any harm to our precious pearlies? Talk to our professional dentists at Randwick Dental Clinic in Sydney about our in-home teeth whitening kit.
